Class Four Years 5 and 6

Pupils:
Years 5 & 6
Teachers:
Mrs Michelle Hastings
Teaching Assistants:
Mrs Jo Keene

Class 4 contains the Year 5 and Year 6 children and is taught by Mrs Hastings four days a week, and by Mrs Hewett on Fridays. The class is fortunate to have a full-time teaching assistant, Mrs Keene attached to it. She is able to run various support groups and provide individual support wherever it is required.

The week is timetabled to provide ability grouped Maths and English every morning with other subjects providing a more integrated approach in the afternoons. There is a two year cycle of different topics in place; these are led by Science, History or Geography each term. Art, DT and ICT fit into the topics where appropriate. The children are very fortunate in that they are taught to play a wind instrument as part of the class band. Class 4 go swimming for two terms each year at the Chipping Norton Leisure Centre pool (from September until December).

As a church school we place a strong focus on the development of knowledge of the Christian faith and the appreciation and understanding of other religions. We say Grace together at lunchtime and the children take turns to say a prayer from the class prayer book to finish the school day.

Class 4 follows the whole school behaviour policy. Children are rewarded for excellent work or effort by being awarded golden time’ or a sticker for their personal record.

Class 4 know that they are expected to work very hard to achieve their best and must also provide excellent role models to the rest of the school. They are encouraged to lead and support in areas such as the School Council, peer mediation duties and the Eco-School Committee. They are fortunate enough to go on many trips throughout the year and are expected to represent the school with the highest standards of behaviour.

Class 4 children are given many responsibilities throughout the school. Jobs they do include answering the office telephone, looking after the younger children at lunchtimes, caring for plants, taking photographs and recycling.
