Partners
We work in partnership with four other schools, one in Poland, one in France, one in Spain and one in Finland. The school that we work with in Finland is the Vasa övningsskola in Vasa, Österbotten and this is the school we take all of our Year 6 children to each May. The teachers from all the schools liaise closely to find out as much as possible about each other's schools and how they work. We plan all the details of the project closely together and travel to meet each other at least twice a year.
Our Project
Our project is about life in our communities.
We are describing and then comparing our linguistic and cultural and natural environments. We exchange information and through discussions are able to develop a good understanding of the various countries, the people who live there and the languages they speak.
The project started in September 2009 and there was a teacher visit to France which took place in November 2009, and then in February 2010 there was a teacher visit to Finland. When the teachers returned form their visits, they talked to the children about what they had learned and then showed them all the photographs taken.
Each school produced an information pack about the school and the local town or village and gave copies to all the other schools. Class 3 produced an information booklet about Great Rollright and Class 4 did the same but for the school. When Mrs Hastings and Mrs Hewett travelled to Begaar in France they gave out the booklets to the other teachers.
In September 2010 there was a teacher visit to Poland and then in November 2010 there was a teacher visit to Spain. In January 2011 all the teachers came to Great Rollright.
In May 2010 the children in Year 6 who didn't travel last year, visited the school in Vasa and stay for five days and then another group travelled in May 2011.
